Hiccupping is a complex, spontaneous action involving the diaphragm, abdominal muscles, intercostal muscles, major nerve pathways and the brain. To rid yourself of hiccups try the following.
Breathe in and push down
Take a deep breath and push your stomach down as though you were going to have a bowel movement.
This action stimulates the vagus nerve which connects the diaphragm to the brain.
Eat slowly
Hiccups occur most often when you eat too fast, and especially when you're eating meat.
Drink something
Try and drink a non-carbonated liquid as soon after the hiccup as possible.
Rub your eyes
Rubbing your eyes very hard stimulates the vagus nerve again.
Swallow sugar
A teaspoon or tablespoon of sugar swallowed dry seems to help some people.
Drink upside down
Bend over and drink water from the opposite side of a glass.
Pull up your knees
Try pulling your knees up to your chest and compressing it.
Hold your breath
Try and hold your breath for as long as you can.
