Sinus Problems

Sinuses usually flare up in the winter when the mucus in the nose dries up, and particles going through the nose get thick and sticky. Here's how to help stop the problem.

Use tissues
The best relief for a runny nose is to blow it. It brings immediate relief and removes any irritants. The problem usually tapers off in a two-week period.
Try a nasal spray
A saline nasal spray or mist, such as Ocean Mist, is a type of saltwater solution that helps cut thick mucus and dry out secretions. It can bring immediate relief that lasts for about 20 minutes. You can also try breathing in humidity or steam to get extra moisture in the nose for short-term relief.
Try it yourself
You can make your own nasal spray solution by dissolving ½ teaspoon of salt (a third if you suffer from high blood pressure) in eight ounces of warm water. Place the water into a nasal aspirator then breathe in whilst snorting the water into your nose. As the throat is connected to the nasal passage, gargle with salt water to help clear postnasal drainage.
