Prostate Problems

The prostate gland is the size of a walnut in adult men but in some cases, especially in middle aged and older men, can grow bigger. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatitis are common conditions. With BPH the urge to wee is more frequent but it's difficult to do, while prostatitis is an infection that makes passing water painful.

It's also associated with an increased urge to go as well as general aches and pains and affects younger men (under the age of 50).

Changing your diet - increasing fruit and vegetable intake, consuming less red meat, dairy products and fat - could help.

Vitamin E, zinc and essential fatty acids are vital to prostate health so include foods containing these in your diet, such as nuts, oily fish, oysters and pumpkin seeds.

Herbal supplements shown to help include saw palmetto, pygeum and stinging nettle.
Antioxidant lycopene supplements could also be of benefit.
