Typically middle-aged men suffer from gout, although anyone can suffer from it. Any joint can be affected but the big toe is most commonly targetted.
Use Ibuprofen Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which can reduce the pain and inflammation around the affected joint. Aspirin however can make gout worse by slowing the elimination of uric acid. | Remove pressure When pain strikes keep the affected joint elevated and at rest. | Use ice Apply an ice pack which will soothe and numb the pain. If the pressure of the ice pack itself is painful, use a towel or sponge as a cushion. | |
